Indian Pressure League

When Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir walk out for the toss on April 16 they will not only be shouldering the responsibilities of their respective franchises but also that of the Indian Premier League. The league, which enters the seventh year, is now facing an acid test which it shouldn’t be doing in first place. But that’s how controversy ridden this league has been. It is almost as if the league and controversy go hand in hand until the latter breaks away putting the league in an unwarranted place.
Each season has witnessed its own share of controversies, but this time, the story is far different. Every action on and off the field will be under magnifying glasses. Every big over will find conspiracy theories. How people concerned overcome these is the biggest question. After the spot-fixing controversy last season, the league simply can’t afford more damaging publicity.
This season the build-up has been quite muted. With the first leg of the league shifted to United Arab Emirates, the carnival mood that accompanies the summer now needs a reminder. Even the franchises, which generally entertain the media for interactions with the players, have played it soft and it is just three day’s away!

Tickets sold in black at Rs 24,000!

  • Abu Dhabi, Apr 11:                             Tickets for the opening match of IPL 7 in Abu Dhabi are sold out but you can still buy tickets if you are ready to shell out nearly 20 times the original cost! According to a report in "Gulf News", IPL tickets are being sold in black ahead of the tournament's inaugural game between defending champions Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders on April 16. Touts are selling Dirhams 80 (Rs 1,280) tickets at Dirhams 1,500 (Rs 24,000), according to the newspaper report. "On a popular classifieds website, touts are asking Dh1,500 for a Dh80 ticket to the tournament's opening fixture at Abu Dhabi's Zayed Stadium on April 16," the report said. "That may be about 20 times the ticket price for a ‘sold out' match, but Robin, one of the men illegally selling these tickets online, said he had 15 takers in less than 15 minutes after posting an online ad," it added. David East, CEO of the Emirates Cricket Board and Abu Dhabi Cricket Club (ADCC) has confirmed that the tickets for the first two games have been sold out. "Tickets for the first two matches at Abu Dhabi are sold out. The demand for match tickets at the other two venues - Dubai and Sharjah - are also very high. There is no question that they will sell out soon," East told "Gulf News". Due to general elections in India, IPL 7 was moved to UAE for 20 matches. The first phase will be held from April 16 to 30. The league returns to India on May 2.

Delhi Daredevils on Saturday unveiled their brand new jersey for the seventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) with a tie-up with the country’s largest online and mobile classifieds portal classified, Quikr, in New Delhi.

The new jersey was unveiled in the presence of captain Kevin Pietersen, vice-captain Dinesh Karthik and coach Gary Kirsten.

Pranay Chulet, the CEO and founder of Quikr, said this will be a long-standing association with the GMR group, the owners of Delhi Daredevils.

“Although I cannot talk about the details of the contract but we are hopeful that it will be a long-term association with Delhi Daredevils which will prove to be mutually beneficial to both the parties,” Chulet said.

Delhi Daredevils CEO Hemant Dua added: “This is an ideal opportunity for us to engage the Daredevils fans via Quikr platform. I believe that just like Quikr’s growth in recent years the Daredevils will also grow from strength to strength in the upcoming editions of IPL.”

The Delhi Daredevils squad with 23 players left for Dubai this evening. They will play their first match against Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 17 in Sharjah.
